The curly hair routine app

Train your curls.

Most curly hair advice is written for someone else’s hair. Coil builds a routine from yours — curl type, porosity, density, scalp — then learns what actually works from a 20-second check-in each day.

What Coil does

Everything a good stylist would ask, every single day.

Curls change with the weather, your water, your sleep and whatever you put on them. Coil keeps track of all of it so you can stop guessing.

A routine built from your hair

Thirteen quick questions — curl pattern, porosity, density, scalp, chemical history, how you dry, what you want. Low porosity gets a different wash day than high porosity. A dry scalp gets an oil step. Your plan re-shapes around what you actually did, not what you meant to do.

How does your hair take product?

Low porosityProducts sit on top, take a while to sink in
Medium porosityAbsorbs and holds moisture without much fuss
High porositySoaks up product fast, dries out just as fast

AI hair scan

Add a selfie when you check in and Coil reads frizz, definition and moisture straight off the photo. Correct anything that looks off — you see things a camera can’t. It all rolls into one curl score you can actually track.

Stop wasting money on products

Snap an ingredient label. Coil flags sulfates, drying alcohols, silicones and waxes, then scores how compatible the product is with your hair — build-up risk, protein load, and whether it will weigh your curls down.

Progress you can see

A photo timeline and curl-score trends show the slow stuff — the grow-out, the frizz that finally calmed down, the product that quietly made things worse. Plus trim reminders, so the next cut never creeps up on you.

How it works

Twenty seconds a day.

Take the hair quiz

Curl type, porosity, density, scalp, length, wash days, habits and goals. About two minutes, and you can change any answer later.

Check in daily

Tick off what you did, rate how your curls feel, add a selfie if you like. That’s the whole check-in, and everything else runs on it.

See what works

Coil lines your curl score up against your products and habits, so the routine gets sharper — and your shelf gets smaller.

The curl score

One number for how your hair is doing.

Definition is what you look at in the mirror, so it carries the most weight. Frizz and moisture are the levers that move it. Watch the number and you’ll see — within a couple of weeks — which wash day, which leave-in and which drying method your curls actually prefer.

Questions

Good to know

Is Coil only for men?

No. Coil started with men who have short cuts and grow-outs, because most curly hair advice ignores them, but the routine engine reads curl pattern, porosity, density and scalp — it has no idea who is holding the phone. It works for wavy, curly and coily hair at any length, from a fade to waist-length.

What curl types does Coil support?

Wavy (2A–2C), curly (3A–3C) and coily (4A–4C). If you are not sure which you are, the onboarding quiz describes each one in plain words, and our curl type guide walks you through it.

How does the AI hair scan work?

Add a selfie when you check in and Coil reads frizz, definition and moisture from the photo. You can correct anything it gets wrong — you can feel things a photo cannot — and the scores feed your curl score and trends.

How does product scoring work?

Photograph an ingredient label and Coil flags what matters for curls — sulfates, drying alcohols, silicones and waxes — then scores how compatible the product is with your hair. Over time it also tallies how your curls actually did on the days you used each product.

How much does Coil cost?

Coil Pro is $6.99 a week or $99.99 a year (about $1.92 a week). New subscribers get a three-day free trial, and you can cancel any time in your Apple ID settings. Prices may vary by country; the App Store shows your local price.
